Komodo 14 myslí jako žádný jiný šachový program Inspirováni programem AlphaZero začali před dvěma lety programátoři Komodo GM Larry Kaufman a Mark Lefler od základu přepracovávat svůj motor. Bylo to dobré rozhodnutí, protože Komodo 13 nastavovalo nová měřítka nejen na základě svého výkonu, ale také díky inovativnímu přístupu s "MCTS" ("Monte Carlo Tree Search"). Inteligentní a na výsledky zaměřená hodnocení systému Komodo se v praxi rovněž ukázala jako velmi účinná a odráží se ve stylu hry motoru. Pokud Komodo 10 považuje svou pozici za výhodnou, vyhýbá se výměnám a snaží se pozici otevřít, ale při obraně horší pozice se snaží vyměňovat figury a blokovat pozici ve snaze dotlačit partii k remíze.
